Bengkulu - In August 2022, four outstanding students from the University of Muhammadiyah Bengkulu (UMB) were selected to participate in the prestigious Virtual Summer Program hosted by Asia University, Taiwan. This achievement marks another milestone in UMB’s growing efforts to provide its students with global exposure and international learning experiences.
The selected participants were Recho Prabowo from the Science of Law Department, Muhammad Iqbal Alfaris from the Agrotechnology Department, Ridho Yuslian Toni from the Communication Studies Department, and Rara Gita Saraswati from the English Education Department. Each of them earned the opportunity through a competitive selection process coordinated by UMB’s Office of Cooperation and International Affairs (OCIA).

The summer program offered a dynamic lineup of academic and cultural sessions, delivered by prominent faculty members from Asia University. Over the course of the program, students explored topics ranging from digital innovation and Asian culture to sustainable development and global leadership — all through a virtual platform that connected participants from across the globe.
“This experience helped us understand how international classrooms work, and gave us fresh insights into subjects beyond our major,” said Rara Gita Saraswati, one of the participants. “It was intense, fun, and eye-opening.”
The program was designed not only to enhance academic knowledge, but also to strengthen soft skills such as cross-cultural communication, time management, and digital collaboration — essential tools for students preparing to enter an increasingly interconnected world.
Coordinator of OIA UMB, Ririn Putri Ananda, congratulated the students and highlighted the significance of the program. “Participation in Asia University’s summer program reflects UMB’s commitment to internationalization and producing globally competitive graduates,” she said. “These students have represented UMB well on the global stage.”
With more students showing interest in global mobility programs, OCIA plans to expand its partnerships and send more UMB students to international short courses, exchange programs, and internships in the coming years.
